1. The scope of application is different: PL flange is suitable for the connection of carbon steel pipes whose nominal pressure does not exceed 2.5MPa. The sealing surface of PL flange can be made into three types: smooth, concave-convex and tongue-and-groove. The smooth PL flange is the most widely used. It is mostly used when the medium conditions are relatively mild, such as low-pressure non-purified compressed air and low-pressure circulating water. Butt welding flanges are used on pipelines that transport expensive, flammable and explosive media. The butt welding flange is not easy to deform, has good sealing, and is widely used. The nominal pressure PN is about 16MPa.

2. Different welding methods: PL flange welding requires only single-sided welding without welding the inner port of the pipe and flange connection; welding installation of butt-welded flanges requires flange double-sided welding. Therefore, the butt welding is used to reduce stress concentration. The general butt welding flanges are mostly neck flanges, also called nipple flanges.

3. The price is different: the price of PL flange is relatively cheap; and the butt welding flange has one more process, so the installation cost, labor cost and auxiliary material cost of the butt welding flange are higher, and the price is relatively more expensive.
